Relief and Rehabilitation at Mandirbazar and Patharpratima Blocks

Overview

In June 2020, Kolkata Sanved conducted a ration distribution drive in the Mandirbazar Block of South 24 Parganas (West Bengal) in collaboration with our local partner, Sundarban Social Development Centre (SSDC). 120 adolescent girls and their families were identified, with whom we will be working in the long-term, even after the distribution is completed.   

Support Extended:

22nd June 2020, saw the commencement of the work by handing over emergency response materials desperately needed by local families. This included-

  • Tarpaulin
  • Mosquito Net 
  • Lidded Bucket 
  • Mugs 
  • Soaps
  • Masks 
  • Sanitary Napkins

Engagement with these families will continue for the next 3 years, with Kolkata Sanved providing psychosocial support through Dance Movement Therapy to the 120 adolescent girls who had been identified for support.. 

In addition, the Kolkata Sanved Team, on 26th June, visited identified villages in Mandirbazar and Patharpratima blocks and distributed relief material to the families of 1000 adoloscent girls there, thus reaching out to approximately 5000 individuals. The material included- 

  • Bleaching Powder
  • Soaps
  • Calcium Carbonate
  • Phenyl 
  • Mask 
  • Sanitary Napkins 

Following a needs assessment visit made by the Kolkata Sanved team, regarding the drinking water situation in the Patharpratima block, two new tube wells were installed and 13 damaged tube wells were repaired, with financial support from AWO International.
