On the occasion of National Handloom Day , 7th August, SEWA Bharat invited Kolkata Sanved to facilitate a dance movement therapy workshop with Women Weavers. The programme was organised by SEWA West Bengal. Kolkata Sanved Founder Member Sabita Debnath and Senior Dance Movement Therapy practitioner Jhuma Das facilitated the space to acknowledge both the struggle and achievement and celebrate the power of women through dance and movement . The programme inaugurated by Iconic Fashion Designer Bibi Russell. She collaborated with these Phulia women weavers and launched an exclusive collection with SEWA. SEWA mainly works for unorganized sector women who are unequal in terms of economic and social standing in the home and workplace. A wonderful interactive panel discussion moderated by senior journalist Swati Bhattacharya on the current socio-economic context of handloom and how one can improve the conditions of women weavers. The panel included women weavers, Bibi Russell, and representatives from Biswa Bangla and the Craft Council.
